I am Nonsikelelo Sheron Mpofu, a Zimbabwean student pursuing a PhD in Materials and Textile Engineering under the ACEII-PTRE scholarship. This scholarship has afforded me the opportunity to study in a different country and interact with friendly people from various nationalities and educational backgrounds within the Moi University community. Studying at Moi has provided me with exceptional education and has also taught me the importance of conducting quality research. I have also understood the significance of sharing knowledge through journal publications and conference presentations. The lecturers are eager to share their expertise with students so as to assist them to achieve their goals. I believe that the exposure received in my PhD studies will enable me to make a valuable contribution in Materials and Textile Engineering.
Africa Center of Excellence in Phytochemicals, Textile and Renewable Energy (ACEII-PTRE) is one of the 24 Africa Centers of Excellence funded by the World Bank ACE II project that aims to provide high quality training and research within the Eastern and Southern African Region. The Center focuses on providing advanced training and skills in Phytochemicals, Textile & Industrial engineering and Renewable Energy, with the potential to develop products of high quality, offer services and solutions to the industrial sector. In order to promote research, innovation and technology transfer between academia and industry, the Center is calling for proposals in the following areas:
- Textile Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Phytochemistry
- Renewable Energy
It is envisaged that the outputs from these areas will pave way for development of clean energy solutions, innovative industrial products and/processes and publications or refereed conference proceedings.
